"100 Years of Broadway"
at Playhouse on the Green

100 years of broadway"100 Years of Broadway," a musical celebration of the Great White Way from 1907 to 2007 with a cast of over 25 local and professional singers and performers from the greater Fairfield County area, will be presented at Playhouse on the Green, Bridgeport, for four benefit performances, June 21 through June 24. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.; Sunday at 3 p.m.

Mark S.Graham of Trumbull, director, has brought together the talents of Broadway actor/singer/composer Jerold Goldstein of Stratford as musical director, and noted choreographer Kathy Hellrigel of Monroe to create a musical revue of Broadway showtunes from Irving Berlin to Stephen Sondheim.

100 years of broadway"We auditioned over 100 people and have cast the revue with 25 of the best of the best from the community," said Graham.

Goldstein added, "We have performers from the ages of 7 to 70+ singing some of the most beloved songs from the Broadway songbook. I am so pleased with the extraordinary talent we have been able to get to volunteer their time and energies to put on this show."

Production numbers will include "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat" from "Guys and Dolls" to "Trouble in River City" from "The Music Man."

100 years of broadwayThe four performances are a benefit for Playhouse on the Green to raise funds for a professionally enhanced community-based initiative which will present a season of plays and a musical starting in the fall.

Graham said, "I am pleased to be able to tap into the professional talent from the community as well." Cabaret performer Maureen Hamill of Black Rock, who recently performed at Tavern on the Green, will be a guest star. Local radio personality and performer Randye Kaye of Trumbull will serve as narrator and performer with singer/performer Jeanette Harris of Bridgeport.
